Driving Global Digital Innovation in Food Processing

The SS4AF Innovation Hub is an initiative of Smart Solutions 4 Agri-food, created to strengthen our international efforts in accelerating the transformation to a more sustainable food system via digitalization and automation in food processing — especially for SMEs.

Innovation Hub

While SS4AF remains rooted in a strong European network of clusters and innovation ecosystems, the Innovation Hub expands our reach beyond Europe, enabling collaboration with global companies and institutions. The aim: support food processors, tech suppliers, and machine builders with hands-on innovation, and ensure knowledge flows to regions where it's most needed and can generate substantial impact.

Our first joint global initiative

In 2024, SS4AF partnered with FAO and the World Food Forum (WFF) to launch the first-ever Startup Innovation Award (SIA): Digital Innovation in Food Processing. With over 40 global applications and strong visibility, it became a clear success — and a signal of untapped potential.  Building on this momentum, the SS4AF Innovation Hub will again highlight how digital innovation can shape a more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive food system in 2025 and 2026. It will be supported by:

  • One global SIA: Digital Innovation in Food Processing;
  • Multiple dedicated side-events on food processing during the WFF;
  • A strong outreach through FAO’s channels and networks.

Innovation in food processing is an underexposed topic, despite its enormous potential. Together, we can raise global awareness and showcase Europe’s leadership in this field.
